Lasting for 11 nights, Feel Mongolia Group Horse Riding Tour combines central Mongolian highlights such as Kharkhorin and Erdenezuu Monastery, Ulaantsutgalan Waterfall, Ugii Lake, Tovhon Monastery, and horse-based nomadic culture except for the horseback adventures.
The countryside adventure starts with a nomadic life discovery. Next, you will ride along the picturesque Orkhon Valley exploring the historical and natural wonders of central Mongolia.
Our furthest destination is amazingly beautiful Eight Lakes or Naiman Nuur in the depths of Khangai Mountain.

Day 1: City tour

Our driver will pick you up at the airport/railway station or your hotel. The city tour starts visiting the Gandantegchilen Monastery. The monastery is a favored place for locals as well as foreigners due to its interesting religious artifacts and peacefulness. A 26 m gilded statue of a Buddha is another thing of interest. Next, visit the National History Museum to view exhibits on Mongolian history, and culture followed by a visit to Central Square and a drive to the Zaisan Hill Memorial for a panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar.

Day 2: Leave Ulaanbaatar, meet horse herding nomads and get accustomed to Mongolian horses
In the morning, travel to Elsentasarkhai, a unique place represents features of the Gobi desert, mountain steppes, and grasslands in an area. Arrive at Elsentasarkhai by lunchtime and have an authentic Mongolian barbeque for lunch. Next, you will see how the equestrians catch the horses, get instruction about local riding techniques, the best way to treat Mongol horses, their character, and have a 2-3 accustom riding to get a feel for Mongolian horse. Continue to travel to Kharkhorin and stay overnight in a ger camp.

Day 3: Visit ancient monastery Erdenezuu, start the horse riding tour
In the vast valley of the Orkhon River, the stunning Erdenezuu Monastery coexists with Kharkhorin town. The monastery was built on the ruins of Mongolian ancient capital Kharkhorum using old materials of the destroyed city. Erdenezuu is the first, as well as the largest monastery in Mongolia, has a history of over 400 years. See some valuable religious items in the temple museum and view its stunning architecture. Seeing some remains of the ancient city and visiting the Kharkhorin Museum is a part of our today’s tour. After lunch, the horse riding adventure begins along the Orkhon River valley. You will ride 3-4 hours depending on the riding pace.

Day 4: Continue to ride the Orkhon Valley
The riding continues along the Orkhon Valley observing the changing landscapes, the picturesque valley filled with nomads and their numerous animals. Overnight in a tent in the Orkhon River Valley.

Day 5: Riding to Ulaantsutgalan waterfall
Ride heading Ulaantsutgalan waterfall falls from a 24 m lava cliff. From today,  you will see more yaks than we saw flocks of sheep, goats, and horses on past days. The first half of riding takes place along basalt covered valleys crossing some rivers and streams. Reach the waterfall by lunchtime. Discover the scenic area by walking around, hiking up and down the river canyon. If you wish, swim under the waterfall. We further ride through mountains.

Day 6: Reach the main destination Eight Lakes/Naiman Nuur
The horse riding gets progressively more challenging as you will ride through obstacles of mountains and narrow trails of the forest to the depths of the Khangai Range. The scenery worth the challenging riding. Our support vehicle will remain at the bottom of Buureg Mountain. Therefore, prepare and pack light for the next two days. Luggage horses will follow us. This evening, you will reach the main destination Eight Lakes. Overnight in the tent on the shore of Khuis Lake.

Day 7: Ride between the lakes and relax
The Eight Lakes or Khuisiin Naiman Nuur are picturesque 8 lakes were formed by volcanic eruptions centuries ago. It is a part of the 11500 hectares of Khuisiin Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve. The area is extremely beautiful surrounded by coniferous tree-covered mountains, and the forest clearings have multitudes of wildflowers in summer. Our tents remain in the same camping site of Khuis Lake while we ride between the Eight Lake. Staying at the campsite end enjoy your lazy day is an option.

Day 8: Ride back to the Buureg Mountain
Today you will ride back down into the Buureg valley and meet the support valley. Continue the riding to a ger located 5 km further the Ulaantsutgalan waterfall. Check-in at a ger camp.

Day 9: Riding to Shiveet Ulaan Mountain
The scenic riding continues back through the Orkhon Valley. Arrive at the bottom of forested Shiveet Ulaan Mountain. Stay overnight in the tent.

Day 10: Visit Tovkhon Monastery, drive to Ugii Lake
In the morning, you will hike or ride to the top of Shiveet Ulaan Mountain to visit Tovkhon Monastery. Tovhon Monastery was established on the 2312 m rocky top of forest-covered Shiveet Ulaan Mountain. Visit the monastery and the meditation caves. Vistas are fascinating from the top of the mountain. Return to the campsite, lunch and time to say goodbye to the horses and equestrian. The journey continues driving to Ugii Lake. Stay overnight at a ger camp enjoying the view of the mountain steppe lake.

Is this tour suitable for me?

12-days Feel Mongolia group horse riding tour includes 9 days of horse riding, a day city tour, and an overland four wheels driving and sightsee on the other days. The tour is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. We planned the tour with 30 to 45 km daily riding depends on the terrain. Even though you can have your optional riding after settling the camping if the day riding length is not long enough for you. Support vehicle will follow the group and luggage horses during the two-day ride near the Eight Lakes. The time in the saddle varies between 4 and 7 hours a day depending on the distance and if the program includes a full-day ride or a half-day ride.

The riding speed

You will ride at walking speed in burden areas and at your pleasure. Cantering and trotting will help us to cover the distance faster when available. You could gallop on the steppes and in flatter areas if you wish.

The tour includes 2 nights stay in a good location, comfortable traveler type 3* hotel stay in Ulaanbaatar, 3 nights in ger camp, and 6 nights in the tent.
The ger camp is a seasonal holiday accommodation consist of several nomadic dwelling gers.  It has a restaurant that serves western and Mongolian cuisines. However, the running water WC and showers are in a separate block to share with other travelers. Some of the ger camps have connected with central electricity while the other half sources the electricity from a generator, solar and wind. About the camping, we will provide good quality camping gear. Bringing your sleeping bags suitable for as low as -10°C is recommended. Alternatively, we can provide sleeping bags.

Meals

The tour includes 11 breakfasts, 11 lunches, and 11 dinners.

During the 3 days ger camp stay, they serve some European and Mongolian meals. Meat is the main recipe for lunch and dinner, served along with vegetables, salads, and soups. There will be more meat in traditional Mongolian meals.

BREAKFAST: A typical breakfast consists of tea, coffee, bread, jam, butter, eggs, sausage, cookies, cheese, and cereals.

LUNCH: They serve some salads, Mongolian soups, main courses (pasta, rice, vegetables, beef/mutton/chicken/fish near lakes/rivers, traditional meal), and dessert with tea.

DINNER: Serve salad, the main course, dessert, and tea.

During the camping day, a cook will cook some European, Mongolian, and Asian meals.

Are you a vegetarian or have a dietary restriction? If you are a vegetarian or have dietary restrictions, please inform us in advance. We will arrange the meals accordingly.

Water – We provide bottled water daily and boiled water for two days when riding in the mountains.

Meals with the nomads – On day 2, you will try authentic Mongolian lunch with the nomads.

Guides

An English speaking guide will serve the group. They are all friendly, helpful and most of them were born and raised in the Mongolian countryside. Therefore, they have good knowledge about every aspect of Mongolia and have at least three years or more years of guiding experience.
Except for your interpreter-guide, two or more nomad men will be your equestrian depends on the riders’ number.

Tour vehicles

Four-wheels drive Japanese and Korean vehicles serve for the tour. Depending on the group size, we might assign a Russian van for the kitchen and luggage carriage.

When is the best time to take the group tour?

The most suitable time to take the Feel Mongolia Group Horse Riding Tour is between 15 May and 15 September. Although, we organize the group tours in June, July, August, and September based on the annual weather forecast suitable for camping and horse riding. The average day temperature fluctuates between +15°C to +30°C in June and August. The September weather is a bit cooler with an average day temperature of +7°C to +20°C. July is the warmest with some occasional rain. The temperature ranges between +18°C and +35°C. Night temperatures drop by over 10°C. Mongolian weather fluctuates a lot seasonally, daytime, and at night. We suggest you expect and be ready for sudden weather changes – pack clothes suitable for hot, cold, rainy, and windy weather

What to bring and wear?

• Torch/headlamp is vital.

• Light weight, windproof/waterproof warmer jacket helps you to stay warm in the evening while camping. The temperature may drop below zero at night in late August and September.

• Bring riding pants. Waterproof over trousers and lightweight travel pants that can be unzipped into shorts would be ideal. Having layers of clothes is better in cooler months including trousers.

• T-shirts and long-sleeved t-shirts will be comfortable and help you protect your arms from the sun and stay warm.

• Fleece jacket/sweatshirt could be suitable at a cold temperature of spring/autumn and evening/morning.

• Woolen hat, gloves/riding gloves, scarf, and layers of undergarments help you stay warm in spring, autumn, in the evenings, and the mornings when camp.

• Riding boots/boots with gaiters. You may bring waterproof walking boots and a sturdy pair of walking sandals. Pajamas/tights or something similar to stay warm at night.

• Clothes suitable at high up to +38°C during daytime in summer months. The temperature could drop to 0°C just after +30 °C. Therefore, expect and prepare for the inflexible weather. The rain turns into snow in the higher elevated areas either in summer.

• Sun cream, lip balm, sunglasses, and a sunhat are vital.

• Some pills of common symptoms such as travel sickness pills, allergies pills (there is a vast expanse of grasslands), Pepto-Bismol for the inevitable upset stomach, Antibiotic cream for cuts, scratches, and insect bites, etc. The pills should be carried in the original, clearly labeled container, in your handbag, and should be checked with the Mongolian Embassy if necessary.

• A watch or alarm clock can be useful if your mobile phone does not have enough charge or you do not want to use it.

• Check the aviation company restriction when bringing the power bank.

• Razorblades, shampoo, soap, lotions, deodorant, and toothpaste are all available extensively in Ulaanbaatar. However, they are not available at ger camps and during camping. Therefore, bring your supply.

• Bring your towel, dry/wet tissues, and hand sanitizer. The towels are available only at the ger camps.

• Bring lightweight helmets or request us to provide one.

• Sleeping bag – rated comfortably down to -5°C for summer trips, -10°C to -15°C for spring and autumn trips. We can provide synthetic sleeping bags, but not specializes in proper temperatures.

• Daypack with a waterproof cover to keep your water, cameras, etc. on horseback

• Backpack or suitcase

• Insect repellent

• Travel and medical insurance, passport, and other documents

• Camera with a spare battery or a mobile charger. Check your aviation company restriction!

• Resealing (ziploc) plastic bags – to protect your documents, money, camera, binoculars, and other items from wetness, sand, and dust

• You may check herevaccination and health information to travel to Mongolia.

• Small gifts for nomad children if you do not mind. Visiting nomads and learning about this unique culture is an inseparable and experiential part of our tours. Expressing thanks for your sudden and uninformed visits to nomads on your way and their hospitality is nice feeling for either of you. Giving little gifts to the nomads is not a must, but you may like to give a little more happiness to the people who live in the middle of nowhere. Candies are an ideal gift for both children and adults to keep things simple or any of small toys, hair ribbons, children’s books, educational materials, paper, pencils, crayons or face or hand cream, cigarettes or cigar-related items.
