March 5, Day 1: Tour to the provincial center Dalanzadgad
Your guide and drier pick you up from your accommodation. Drive 600 km on paved roads of the vast open Gobi steppes heading Dalanzadgad, a central town of Umnugobi province. On the way, you will transit several towns of the Gobi desert, see continuously changing landscapes and herds of camels and other animals of the nomads.

March 6, Day 2: Visit Mukhar Shivert Valley in Gurban Saikhan Mountain and the Thousand Camel Festival
After breakfast, we will drive to Mukhar Shivert Valley in the Gobi Gurban Saikhan Mountain. After some hiking, you will see a frozen river that looks like a frozen waterfall. The journey continues on the Gobi desert steppes to visit another small town Bulgan. Check-in a guest house (hotels are not available in the town). The opening of the Camel Festival starts with a camel parade. You will see hundreds of two-humped camels gathered at a place. Next, you will see a competition of the nice-looking couple ridden on gracefully looking camels, an anklebone shooting competition, camel polo, and an exhibition of camel paintings, camel products, and dairy products made from camel milk. Today’s event ends with a concert of school children of Bulgan town.

March 7, Day 3: Second day of the Thousand Camel Festival
The second day of the festival starts with a camel race. There are two races; full-grown camels and two-year-old camels. You may bet on the race of the two-year-old camels to make your day more enjoyable. Another interesting point of the festival is the camel training demonstration, catching, and ways to use camels for migration. The festival ends when winners of all competitions are prized.

Is Thousand Camel Festival Gobi Desert Tour suitable for me?
The Thousand Camel Festival takes place near Bulgan town, located 680 km from Ulaanbaatar. You will drive 580 km on paved roads to Umnugobi province’s central town Dalanzadgad to break the driving while staying in a hotel. The 580 km driving takes 8-9 hours. The driving length is the same when you return to Ulaanbaatar. Total driving distance 1410 km. The tour has not included any physical or demanding activities, but staying in a fire heating gers/houses and having outdoor activities at -15°C to -12°C makes the tour a little challenging. Short camel riding with the support of a local equestrian is an experience.
Accommodation
Mongolian tourism depends highly on the season and seasonal accommodation ger camps. Therefore, the ger camps of the Gobi do not work in winter. On Thousand Camel Festival Gobi Desert Tour, you spend two overnights at a guest house. The toilet is a latrine. Stove fire heats the gers/houses. You will stay one night at a hotel in Dalanzadgad, where a shower and WC are available. The tour does not include accommodation in Ulaanbaatar. If you wish, we will be happy to book a hotel for you upon your request.

When is the Thousand Camel Festival?
The Thousand Camel Festival takes place on 6 and 7 March, annually. In terms of weather, the beginning of March is spring, but still cold sometimes. The winter weather continues until mid of March in some years. Snow and storms are usual in Match. Therefore, we suggest you bring warm clothes. You should expect -10°C to +12°C daytime and +1°C to -18° at nights.
Packing list of Thousand Camel Festival Gobi Desert Tour
• Torch/headlamp will be useful when going to the bathroom in the evening
• A warm jacket suitable as low as -20°C. Layers of warm clothes are another option (fleece jacket/sweatshirt). The layers of clothing allow efficient heat retention and protect against the cold and chill wind. For added warmth, we can provide full length, warm traditional cloth “deel” on request. It is free of charge.
• Pajamas/tights or something similar help you stay warm at night
• Warm boots and a good pair of thermal wool socks
• Warm hats, gloves, and scarf
• Windproof sun cream
• Some pills for common symptoms such as travel sickness pills, allergies pills, Pepto-Bismol for the inevitable upset stomach, Antibiotic cream for cuts, scratches, etc. These should be carried in the original, clearly labeled container, in your hand luggage, and should be checked with the Mongolian embassy if necessary.
• Shampoo, soap, lotions, deodorant, and toothpaste are all available extensively in Ulaanbaatar. However, they are not available during guest house stay.
• Bringing your towel, dry/wet tissues, and hand sanitizer will be useful during some important stops in the countryside (call of nature).· The hotels provide towels. However, the guest house will not.
