If you’re short on time and budget, then taking a group tour can be the answer to getting the most out of a destination. In some counties, budget travelers organize their arrangements and travel using local transport. However, it is different in Mongolia due to the public transport destination limit. So, the travelers ended up hiring a car between the public transport station in the towns and attractions, which costs a lot.

Boil and drink the tap water. Although, we recommend you use bottled water if available.
Credit cards are accepted widely in Ulaanbaatar, cities, and towns. However, we suggest you exchange the currency into Mongolian Tugrik and use it at locals shops, buy souvenirs from the locals or drinks at the ger camp restaurants, etc.
You can access ATMs in Ulaanbaatar, cities, and bigger towns.
Internet access is widely available in Ulaanbaatar; the hotels, hostels, guest houses, restaurants, and coffee shops in Ulaanbaatar have free WIFI.
However, the internet is not available at ger camps – main tourist accommodations.
Therefore, the best way to access the internet while traveling the countryside is to buy tourist or data sim cards and use the internet when passing towns and stay at ger camps within the reception area.
The mobile phone coverage is good in Mongolia except for some isolated areas.
Kids should be at least 3 years old. Weather conditions, bumpy roads, meaty meals, and sanitary facilities are not ideal for very young children.
Visitors to Mongolia should be in good health condition and able to engage in a reasonable amount of physical activities. Medical services are only available in provincial centers, towns, and soum (administrative unit) centers. Be sure to bring an adequate supply of any prescription medication when you are on tour. Diarrhea and altitude sickness is common for travelers to Mongolia. Also, make sure your insurance incorporates travel medical coverage.
We recommend you take travel and medical insurance before travel Mongolia in case of tour cancellation, injury, illness, and loss of personal possessions.
Generally, the best time to visit Mongolia is between 15 May and 15 September as the weather is warm. However, some people prefer to travel to Mongolia in winter. It depends on the traveler’s preferred weather condition, things to do, views, and events. Check Mongolian monthly weather, events, and the best things to do in certain months and seasons.
The majority of the crimes against tourists are pickpocketing and theft, plus occasional robbery in Ulaanbaatar at night. In the countryside, you will meet people who are welcoming and proud to give tourists an insight into their way of life.
Furthermore, the air is fresh, the water is fresh, and no natural disasters harmful to tourists.
It is common to tip your guide and driver. The tipping amount depends on the length of the trip, the number of staff served the group, and the number of clients on the trip. If you enjoyed your trip, giving a tip is a way of showing your gratitude. Tipping tourist camp staff, taxis, restaurants, and hotels are not common.
The ger camps have western friendly, running water toilet and shower. However, the toilets are in a separate block for share with other travelers. Some of the ger camps have private bathroom gers available at some additional fee. More about the main tourist accommodation ger camp.
You will mostly use bush toilets while driving destination to destination or on some of the camping trips.

Unless your country is stated in the list of the visa-free entry country, obtain the travel visa applying for Mongolian Embassy/Consulate in your country or the nearest country.
Documents needed to apply for a tourist visa
– Completed application form)
– Passport in original (must be valid for a minimum of six months before your intended travel to Mongolia)
– 3.5×4.5cm photo (the size of the photo is mandatory)
– A copy of hotel booking or accommodation information in Mongolia
– A copy of flight/train tickets
– Proof of sufficient funds, i.e. bank statements for the recent six months (if necessary)
– The visa fee is to be paid upon submission of the application. It is non-refundable.
Important notice; Visa officer may require you to submit additional documents in order for you to prove the purpose of your visit. With a regular tourist visa, you may stay up to 30 days in Mongolia. It may be extended for 30 more days at the Immigration Agency of Mongolia if you apply for an extension not less than 4 days before the visa expiration.
Documents needed for a visa upon arrival at the border
If you come from a country where the Mongolian Mission (Embassy/Consulate ) not available, you can obtain a Mongolian visa upon arrival on the Mongolian border.
– Official invitation letter of a certified tour operator approved by the Mongolian Immigration Agency. View Mongolia is a certified tour operator. The invitation letter must be approved 14 days before the entry of the traveler.
– Pay the invitation letter fee to the tour operator

– Visa fee should be paid upon arrival
– 2 passport-sized photos
– Valid passport (must be valid for a minimum of six months before your intended travel to Mongolia)
